Finally! An answer to the infamous question - "What is Semen made of?"
The Ingredients of Semen:
A man's body is constantly producing sperm and semen for the "right time." Semen is mostly comprised of water, sugars, proteins, and other components; such as minerals, micronutrients, and vitamins. Therefore, constant dehydration and lack of nutrients could restrict the production as a whole. Picture a whole bunch of people working in a factory without a lunch break - total failure!
In order to explain everything clearly we are going to break it down for ya!
Sperm vs. Semen – There is a difference!
We hear men say, "My partner doesn't like the taste of my sperm" - ERRRRRRR WRONG! They doesn't like the taste of your SEMEN. Semen is the ejaculate from a male; which includes the sperm as well as additional components. Sperm cells are the individual cells that swim up to the ovaries and fertilize the egg for pregnancy. Didn't you take bio?
The typical sperm cell number per ejaculate should range from 60 million to 500 million, while the typical volume of semen per ejaculate ranges from 3/4 teaspoon to a full tablespoon (2-15 mL).
Where And How Is Semen Produced In The Body?
Did you know that semen, in general, is not entirely produced entirely within the testes? That's right! Seminal fluid itself is produced within a number of different places.
The seminal vesicles produce a thick white secretion that is rich in sugars; which act as a fuel for the sperm to reach an egg. This is ultimately the "visual" bulk of the semen by volume.
The testes are only dedicated towards the common goal of producing millions of sperm cells, as well as a few other things. Once the sperm cells are produced, they are moved into the ampulla, where they are stored until ejaculation.
Additionally, the prostate gland also contributes towards the seminal fluid. This small donut-shaped organ secretes an alkaline solution to combat the acidic that are found within the urethra which helps the sperm cells in their new foreign environment. This ultimately accounts for roughly 1/3 of the volume.
Lastly, the Cowper's (bulbourethral) glands secrete a lubrication (mucus based) prior to ejaculation; which is known as precum or pre-cum. This fluid is produced to act as a natural lubricant. Bet you didn't know that! Or maybe you did...
Summary:
Pop a multivitamin, eat properly, and take high quality supplements to ensure you're providing your body with enough of every nutrient necessary for healthy semen and sperm production!
SEMEN, not sperm, contains:
Nutritional Facts:
One tablespoon of semen has approximately 5-7 calories.
Semen also contains zinc and calcium which helps prevent tooth decay.
One typical ejaculation contains:
150 mg of protein,
11 mg of carbohydrates,
6 mg fat,
3 mg cholesterol,
7% US RDA potassium
and 3% US RDA copper and zinc.
The protein content is roughly equivalent to that found in one egg white. Also, those who ingest semen are less likely to suffer from depression. The ingesting of it is called 'spermophagia'. Studies suggest that seminal plasma both prevents and fights cancer, particularly breast cancer. Furthermore, there are studies that suggest frequent ejaculation (at least 2-3 times per week) can reduce the likelihood of developing prostate or testicular cancers. So why not share a Semen Shot with your partner?
